GKC08 Itinerary

Day 1. Broome, Gibb River Road, Tunnel Creek, Windjana Gorge National Park
Depart Broome and head into the unique Kimberley Outback. We visit the Boab Prison Tree, believed to be more than 1000 years old. 14 metres in width, this hollowed tree was used as a prison cell during the region's early days. Next, we begin our journey on the Gibb River Road, a remote Outback highway that accesses some of the Kimberley's best scenery. With torch in hand, wade through the cool waters of eerie Tunnel Creek. At Windjana Gorge National Park, view ancient marine fossils adorning the towering limestone walls of the gorge. See crocodiles basking on the banks of the Lennard River.
Two Night Stay: Imintji Wilderness Camp. (LD)

Day 2. Bell Gorge, Hiking and Swimming

We travel through Outback landscapes to Bell Gorge, where rugged cliffs surround a series of tiered waterholes. Explore the spectacular scenery and perhaps swim below the waterfall. (BLD)

Day 3. Galvans Gorge, Barnett River Gorge

Today we explore and swim at Galvans Gorge and Barnett River Gorge. Turn off the Gibb River Road and head north towards the Mitchell Plateau.
Stay: King Edward River, Marunbabidi Wilderness Camp. Relax in the tranquil bush setting. (BLD)

Day 4. Mitchell Plateau, Ancient Rock Art

Ascending the Mitchell Plateau, see Wandjina art and swim in the King Edward River. This is the land of the Wunambal people and you are their welcome guest.
Two Night Stay: Ungolan Wilderness Camp, our exclusive camp on the Mitchell Plateau. (BLD)

Day 5. Mitchell Falls, Gwion (Bradshaw) Art

Today we have a full day to explore Mitchell Falls. When available, local Aboriginal guides will join us for the adventure, imparting their knowledge of the area and sharing their cultural beliefs, which are closely linked to this stunning environment. Discover fascinating Gwion (Bradshaw) art, hike to beautiful waterfalls and even swim in the pools above Mitchell Falls. Perhaps join an optional helicopter flight over the falls or choose a longer flight over the coastline (own expense). Then, it's time to meander back to camp, knowing you have just experienced a day most people only dream of. (BLD)

Day 6. Mitchell Plateau, King Edward River

Today we view galleries of ancient Aboriginal art before saying goodbye to the Mitchell Plateau. Lunch is at a majestic spot along the King Edward River, with time for a swim before continuing to camp.
Stay: Marunbabidi Wilderness Camp. (BLD)

Day 7. El Questro Station, Emma Gorge

Rejoining the Gibb River Road, we cross the Durack River, named after the region's most famous pioneering family. Then, ford the mighty Pentecost River to El Questro Station, in the heart of the Kimberley. This afternoon, hike to lovely Emma Gorge.
Accommodation: El Questro, Emma Gorge Resort. (BLD)

Day 8. El Questro, Wyndham, Kununurra

Enjoy time to explore El Questro. Soak in the thermal pools of Zebedee Springs and visit the station. Farewelling the Gibb River Road, we head to Wyndham for spectacular views from Five Rivers Lookout. Our tour concludes in Kununurra at approximately 5.30 p.m. (BL)
Please note all timing for the above program is approximate and subject to the remoteness of the Kimberley region.
