Kimberley Wilderness Adventures - APT

General information

Kimberley Region
Climate - In May and September/October the weather is fine and hot with mild/warm nights. From June to August the days are fine and warm with cool/cold nights. Expect close to freezing temperatures on some nights in the winter months.

Itinerary
Although every endeavour is made to follow the itinerary as set out in the brochure/website, there may be times when this will have to be varied due to weather or other conditions prevailing at the time. In such instances, your Driver will be able to make contact with our head office 24 hours a day to make arrangements for any necessary itinerary changes.

Age Group and Suitability
On a Kimberley Wilderness Adventure, it doesn't matter what age you are as long as you are fit and in good health. Tours travel through remote regions with limited access to power. All itineraries include guided bushwalks over uneven terrain as well as swimming in waterholes and waterfalls.

Vehicles
Our fleet consist of air-conditioned ISUZU 4-wheel drive vehicles. All vehicles have been specifically designed for the rugged Kimberley terrain.

Permanent Wilderness Camps
In partnership with the Aboriginal land owners, the camps are exclusive to APT KWA. Permanent tents feature comfortable twin beds, linen, doonas, side tables and lighting. The sites have hot showers, permanent toilet facilities and low voltage night lighting.

Imintji Wilderness Camp - Located near the Imintji Community Township, the camp is in Ngarinyin country. Stunning escarpment views and a shady camp provide a fantastic base for exploring the Gibb River Road's magnificent gorges.

Marunbabidi Wilderness Camp - Perfectly placed beside the upper King Edward River, this wilderness camp provides access to a region rich in Wandjina and Gwion (Bradshaw) rock art. Enjoy the abundant birdlife and tranquil bush setting.

Ungolan (Mitchell Falls) Wilderness Camp - Nestled beside a delightful waterhole on Camp Creek, this is an inviting spot for a swim. You can stroll through the forest of Livistona Palms and Eucalyptus trees that dot the camp. Ungolan Wilderness Lodge UPGRADED for 2009 All tented cabins feature private facilities!

Bungle Bungle Wilderness Camp - Located in the heart of World Heritage Purnululu National Park, this is your gateway to explore the Bungle Bungle domes. The award-winning Bungle Bungle Wilderness Camp is exclusive to Kimberley Wilderness Adventures and features tented cabins with private en suites. Discover this World Heritage-listed wilderness for yourself.

Camp Hosts
All camps are permanently staffed with dedicated hosts, ensuring you enjoy delicious meals, fantastic company and incredible surrounds.

Meals
Tasty homestyle meals are served in insect-proof communal dining areas. Meals are plentiful, well-balanced and healthy. All meals that are included in your tour price are clearly indicated on your itinerary. Breakfast consists of cereal, toast, jams, tea and coffee (sometimes a cooked breakfast). Lunch is usually picnic-style with a variety of cold meats, salads, bread, tea and coffee. Dinner consists of entree, main course, dessert, followed by tea and coffee.

Accommodated Safaris
Throughout your tour, you will also stay in comfortable hotels and iconic destinations, experiencing the very best accommodation the Kimberley has to offer.

Communication
All of our vehicles are fitted with satellite telephones and all wilderness camps have telephone or satellite phone communication. These are not available for use by our passengers due to high operating costs of these facilities. Messages are best conveyed to our office to be passed on to our passengers. It is recommended that passengers carry with them a phone card that can be used at phone boxes and other private telephones along the way.

What to Bring
Please bring one soft bag only with a maximum weight of 16 kilograms (32 lbs) per person. No hard suitcases. A small day bag or back pack to be taken on board the vehicle is also recommended.

  • Storage for any additional luggage should be available at your hotel

Spending Money
This will be required for alcohol, snacks and stops along the way for refreshments and souvenirs. Helicopter flights are available at the Bungle Bungle Range and Mitchell Plateau - all major credit cards accepted.At the time of printing, KWA Wilderness Camps are not licensed. You can purchase alcoholic drinks in Broome before your departure. Please do not bring glass containers on your tour.
